STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Students of Our Lady of Guadalupe enjoy a variety of enriching activities and events. They are designed to enhance a challenging school environment, develop the many talents of our students, and to promote an atmosphere of involvement in school and community.
ACADEMIC EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The academically talented students are able to participate in our Eagles and Aquinas computer programs. These children are challenged to further develop their creative, critical thinking, reading, math, and communications skills.
The American Girl Book Club is for girls in grades 2-4. It encourages challenging reading that is correlated with Social Studies. Educationally enriching activities include the Book Fair, field trips and class assemblies. Our sixth, seventh and eighth graders can become reporters and graphic designers on our school newspaper, Newswink. Articles, photos and illustrations may be submitted by the entire student body. Our eighth graders combine their creative talents to publish the yearbook. The Chess Club was developed to stimulate strategic thinking and meets once a week. Other student activities include our Student Council for grades 3-8 which develops leadership skills and an active involvement in student government.
SAFETY PATROL The Safety Patrol is comprised of seventh and eighth graders who work cooperatively with a crossing guard to ensure that students are protected in the streets, alleyways and on the stairs.
MUSIC Music activities include the Choral Group and Tone Chime Choir, which perform at special events and at our annual Christmas Festival and Spring Concert. The school band meets weekly and students perform on various instruments.
SPORTS Sports activities include baseball, softball and basketball with intramurals and a Sports Night event.
OTHER ACTIVITIES Other extracurricular activities include Brownie, Cub and Girl Scout Clubs.
RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES Religious extracurricular activities include altar serving and donating of time to the Office of Religious Education.
CHARITABLE/FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES: The school actively participates in several charitable events. Our Thanksgiving Drive collects money for food which is distributed to the needy in our area. Every year our students generously contribute to our Christmas Giving Tree providing toys, baby clothes and supplies to those in need in our parish and in several other parishes. Weekly and annual collections are donated to the Missions. Community service is performed by our seventh graders as they prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. The eighth grade does community service as part of their graduation award program. Our Lady of Guadalupe’s faculty, students and families work together on very special fundraising events. They include the Jog-A-Thon, the Christmas Boutique (where our entire community shops), the Candy Drive, and our Ladies Night Out.
